dedicated to shaph

i've realized, especially living in nyc, these days anything you do or make could be termed 'art.' and with that "label" all of a sudden what you've done or made is somehow justified, in an abstract universe of sorts. and don't try to say it's not because all art is subjective. it's individualistic. one thing could be empty to one person, but to the next it's wrought full of meaning. thats true. i try not to be judgemental. since living here i've definitely open my eyes to new art forms, especially with Shaphan's perspective on things, it's expansive. i've learned that the term 'art' isn't owned by a peice of canvas and oil paints or wet clay.

Battery Park in South Manhatten...it's a unique display of artists work melding with the earth. the park is an outdoor, lifesize art gallery and as you walk down the paths and through the lawns you begin to see themes and stories appear. reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. i'm not sure why. maybe it's all the little statues of people everywhere.

in any case, though it may not come in a conventional form with an easle and paints it definitely is a form of self-expression and so therefore is a peice of art. i will say though, that i do feel the term is broadly applied and abused at times as well. i do not feel graffitti is art.
